- Can I list my book here?
Is it written in English?
Overlookedbooks.com was created to showcase the works of WingSpan Press and BookShelf Press authors, but we had several requests right away to list books by authors who published elsewhere. So we created the 'affiliate author' program, which allows any author to list their book on Overlookedbooks.com for only $12/year.
- How's it work?
Pretty simple really. If you'd like to get your book listed, we need the following info:
- Title
- Author's name (and your real name if you're using a pen name
- ISBN
- Price
- A description of 50 words or less
- A link where people can buy it. We do handle fulfillment (see below), and we don't link to other publishers' websites. But we can link to your Amazon.com listing.
- Do you handle fulfillment? Distribution?
We do indeed. We can maintain a small stock of your book and process orders through Overlookedbooks.com. We can even provide you a link from your website so your readers can learn about your book there, then be directed to Overlookedbooks to buy (we use PayPal - very secure), then send the buyer back to your site when they're done.
Our fulfillment fees are very competitive - actually quite low compared to many. The cost is $1.75/order for the first book plus $.30/additional book in the same order. That's it.
If you're looking for someone to handle all aspects of ordering and distribution, i.e. to B&T, Ingram, Amazon, etc., we can do that too. Contact Customer Service for details.
- How do I get paid?
If your link takes customers to your site or Amazon, BN etc, we aren't a part of the ordering/payment process, so nothing changes for you - your customers are just directed back to the link you specify. For books we sell directly, we maintain an account for each author; payment is made monthly if your balance exceeds $25, quarterly otherwise.
- What's the catch?
There isn't one. The $12 annual fee covers our cost of maintaining your listing, and it exposes you to our services. You might just choose WingSpan Press to publish your next book.
- What if I want to publish
my next book through WingSpan Press?
Then welcome to the family. Full information on our publication packages and services is available at WingSpan Press.
- What is an ISBN, and who does it belong to?
The ISBN is the International Standard Book Number that uniquely identifies your book. To quote isbn.org, the organization that manages ISBNs:
'The purpose of the ISBN is to establish and identify one title or edition of a title from one specific publisher and is unique to that edition, allowing for more efficient marketing of products by booksellers, libraries, universities, wholesalers and distributors'.
In other words, the ISBN is just an identifier so that publishers, distributors and bookstores can keep it straight with all the other millions of books out there. ISBNs are specific to publishers. If you take your book to another publisher, they will automatically assign one of their own ISBNs to your book. If you want to re-issue your book on your own, you must acquire your own ISBNs since you are becoming the 'publisher of record.'
NOTE: ISBNs are not related to who owns the rights to your work.
- Can I get my own ISBN?
RR Bowker allows you to buy a minimum of 10 ISBNs at a time, for $240. And for most people, that’s 9 ISBNs wasted. Not to mention that an ISBN from a 10-number block is a red flag to everyone in the book trade that says ‘self-published.'
